Lumbini Circuit Tour

Lumbini is the birth of place of Lord Buddha and has been declared as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. It is small town in the southern Terai plains of Nepal, where the ruins of the old city can still be seen. At the age of 84, he left this world with thousands of followers to keep Buddhism alive. Lumbini has since been a holy ground for Buddhists all over the world. The restored garden and surroundings of Lumbini have the remains of many of the ancient stupas and monasteries. A large stone pillar erected by the Indian Emperor Ashoka in 250 BC bears an inscription about the birth of the Buddha. An important part of Lumbini is the temple of Maya Devi. It has stone image of Maya Devi giving birth to Lord Buddha as she holds onto a branch.



An important archeological site near Lumbini, Kapilvastu evokes the ancient palace where Lord Buddha spent his formative years. Scattered foundations of the palace are abundant and archeologists have by now discovered 13 successive layers of human habitation dating back to the eighth century BC. The 'Lumbini Buddhist Circuit Tour' focuses on livelihood of Buddha (Prince Siddhartha). While it is a pilgrimage tour in one hand, in the other hand it displays the great archeological triumph of mankind. There are 62 archeological sites in Lumbini Region exhibiting different event's in Buddha's life. The 'Lumbini Buddhist Circuit Tour' is a visual aid to Buddha's life and development of Buddhism. It includes visit to seven other sites outside Lumbini.

Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu Airport & transfer to Hotel:
Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel; here you will be formally introduced to your Guide and the activities to be enjoyed over the next few days. Evening typical welcome dinner.
 

Day 02 : Full Day guided tour in Buddhist heritage sites of Kathmandu Valley:
We start our pilgrimage tour with a visit to Swoyambhunath Stupa one of the most important centers of Buddhist learning in Nepal. The stupa is located on top of a hill overlooking Kathmandu valley. From here we visit Bodhnath stupa, possibly the largest stupa in the world and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal.
 

Day 03: Fly or Drive to Lumbini:
Flight from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa takes 35 minutes and from there it is 30 minutes drive to Lumbini. One can also drive to Lumbini (3,00 km) from Kathmandu. Overnight in Hotel.


Day 04: Breakfast | Lumbini Tour:
Lumbini Tour includes visit to the Mayadevi temple and tour of surrounding areas of Lumbini Development Trust (LDT). The 3 square mile area of LDT includes Sacred Garden, Monastic Zone and New Lumbini Village.


Day 05: Religious and archeological sites of Kapilavastu:
Drive and visit religious and archeological sites of Tilaurakot, Gotihawa, Kudan, Siddharthanagar, Niglihara, Sagarhawam Aurorakot. Tilaurakot is the ancient Kapilabastu - the capital of Shakya. Kudan was where Buddha was received by his father after his access to enlightenment. Gotihawa is the birth place of Krakuchanda Buddha. Niglihawa is where Kanakmuni Buddha was born. Sagarhawa is the archeological findings as "place of the Massacre of the Shakyas". Overnight in Siddharthanagar.


Day 06: Devdaha - Ramgram - Bhairahawa :
Drive and visit religious and archeological sites at Devdaha and Ramagram. Devdaha is the ancient capital of the Koliya kingdom. It is the maternal hometown of Queen Mayadevi (mother), Prajapati Gautami (step-mother), Princess Yasodhara (consort) and where Prince Siddhartha had spent his childhood. Ramgrama is the brick mound on the bank of the Jharahi River. It is seven meter high brick stupa consisting of relic (one of the eight astha dhatu) of Lord Buddha. The Stupa was built by the king of Ramgrama, who was the eighth king to obtain the Buddha's relics.


Day 07: Fly or drive back to Kathmandu and rest day:
